How do you get beach waves with african american hair?
Um, don't get a weave or use chemicals.
We can get waves too!
This will work on relaxed or natural hair.
When your hair is wet, wrap it in a towel for like 10 minutes to get a lot of the water out. Put a leave in conditioner in your hair. http://www.pantene.com/en-US/product/nf_sv_smoothingcreme.jspx this is a good one.
Then, use a pomade like (they are expensive but they work) http://www.carolsdaughter.com/product/haircare/hairdress/hair_honey.do
or http://hairveda.com/cleansing.aspx (the 1st one)
and put a good amount in your hair. Put your hair is 2-4 good, tight braids or cornrows. Let your hair air dry or sit under a hood dryer. Half way through, rub a bit more pomade on each braid if your hair gets frizzy.
When they are 100% dry, take them out and blend together. If it doesn't come out good, don't worry. It takes practice! Soon you'll have it down.
EDIT: What the 3rd girl said works really well too! Especially if you don't like to have your waves too volumous. BIg if you like 'em big, what I said works.
