Boats and people are shown on the beaches and some h... |
how can i reduce dripping condensation from my bedroom?
my new house has no air vents in the extension bedroom, every few days i get a build up of condensation dripping from above my bay and the walls get smelly and damp.
would i need to use a cold or hot fan?
Hi, not sure what you mean about a (bay) but if your getting moisture that is coming down the walls from the ceiling area it sounds like a definite ventilation problem. Unfortunatlly the only remidy is to vent from the roof. You need to find the source area by entering the attict above the ceiling, then see if there is enouph or any insulation in the ceiling above your drywall. 2ndly, you need a roof vent in this area or atleast 1 foot of vent for every 300 foot of attict area for proper ventilation to move air accross your roof rafters, this will keep your roof from iceing up in the winter and kool in the summer and will illiminate your condisation problem. If this is a Bay window you are speaking of you would have some kind of thermal heat loss in the design of the window installation. This could be improperlly sealed when installed. You may need to remove the window and frame and insulate the area around the frame. I would talk to the builder first before doing either one to see if he can help. 3rd and most importantlly it sounds like it has done some damage already if it,s beginning to smell i would suggest you remove all the damaged drywall in the affected area because of a mold threat please be very carefull with this removel, wear gloves and protect your skin from contact and also use a face mask. Ventilate the room with a window fan drawing air out to help to reduce any mold spores from latching on the other area,s, also turn your heater/furnace/air/ off! you dont want this stuff spreading thru your house. Mold is very very bad for your health it can cause anything from a rash to breathing problems and also cancer and death. After removing the affected areas use a mask and ventilate the room with a fan pulling air out again and spray bleach on the wood behind this area to kill all mold spores. Also if affected remove all damp insulation, especially if it is craft faced with paper. Good luck on this, you have your work cut out for you. Definetlly call the builder i would.
