The right filter for my tank?

I have a tank which I believe is around 35 gallons. It was homemade by a friend, so I'm not exactly sure, but based on its measurements that's what I think it is. So I'm trying to figure out which filter would be best, and the Internet is no help, plus I can't get out to any stores to look around for myself. At the moment I'm using a regular, smallish air-pump type filter and it's not doing a very good job. Any filter I get would have to be safe for babies, cause I've got them constantly, and work with a tank hood and light. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be very grateful!
Heh, I think mine is WalMart. Well, thanks for the help everyone. Hope something works!

When you get a tank that big you are not going to get a filter that is good for supporting young fish. All though since the tank is big there is a chance that the fry will not venture that close to the filter. If you don't want to take the chance buy a divider. They work great.

Some of the filters I would recommend would be:

Aqueon Power Filters

Bio wheel is expensive but what you pay for is what you are going to get an that is amazing filtration.

Aqua clear filters are very good but also complex as in there is not an easy replace filter cartridge.

I hope this helps you can pick any of these up at a petco or petsmart. I would recommend petsmart because of there lower prices.
do not buy walmart filters
