What is the difference between snorkeling and scuba diving?
Snorkeling is viewing what's underwater from the surface or near it. You can dive down, but only for as long as you can hold your breath. It is also called skin diving.
Scuba as mentioned is taking compressed gas (it is not always just air...) to depth. Scuba requires proper training and certification and there are more risks associated with it. However, it opens up a whole new world being able to see the fish, skarks, marine mammals etc from there level. And even seeing ship wrecks etc.
Snorkeling is a good way to start, and many of the skills learned there (mainly comfort in the water) translate well to Scuba diving.
